An update

The development of the new site is coming along. I’m using CakePHP to help speed up production, and things are looking good. I hope you understand that I do not wish to reveal too many details about the new site. But I will reveal them when it gets ready to launch.

My friend showed me how many different DJ Element sites there are: djelement.net, djelement.com, thedjelement.com are all websites. So I just might have to get an oddball name for the new site.

Funny thing, when I got this domain, I originally wanted theDJelement.com. It turns out my friend’s friend owns that domain. I tried to get in contact to see if anything can get worked out since there is no site built there. But alas I had to settle for this.

And it looks like my internet radio station tutorial is still the most popular one on this site. Enough typing, back to work for me.

Enjoy your weekend.

Have you ever seen an angry football scratch?

Well, now you have. Dude’s head even turns all the way like this is the Exorcist.

Didn’t realize the first time I saw this, but the fireworks in the background match the beat. Didn’t realize, because the video is funny as hell.

Why is this site here?

I feel like I’ve lost direction with this site. Looking at what I am doing here now was not what I imagined I would do with this a year ago. Not to say that changing course is bad. Flexibility helps, but this is not what I want to do here.

Posting equipment news is not what I want to do, and I honestly don’t think a lot of people are getting much from it. At least, not from this site.

This is not some sappy “I’m leaving, fuck you guys” post like you see on some message board. This is an announcement that this site will change for the better. It will, hopefully, actually do something for music in a better way. The tutorials will still be there, since they seem to be popular. Especially the one on starting your own internet radio station.

It feels good to help people learn more about DJing.

Every Sunday I will still add videos, and add useful tutorials for everyone. Just no “DJ news” whatever that is. And when the new site comes out, they will be carried over. But I am not going to focus on posting every weekday and Sunday. But it’s worth it to put my focus will on what I wanted the site to be.

So in short, expect just videos on Sundays and tutorials until the new site is up.

C2C, the DJ team

There is a group called C2C, and they make something called music:

They also win the DMC World Team Championships, over and over.

What happened to just playing records?

There are so many choices out now for anyone who wants to play music at a party. Companies are now really trying to cater to everyone. Even Vestax, one of the top players of the scratch niche is coming out with a DJ MIDI controller.

Vestax VCI 100 MIDI DJ Controller

What happened to the days when all you needed were a crate of records? Or hell I’ll say it, a book full of CDs? With all these new devices and selection of software it is actually making it harder to do things. Now you have to disassemble the Serato to hook up the next DJ’s Final Scratch. You use the Vestax controller shown above, and now you end up completely ditching the mixer for the audio out from your laptop. And you also get digital EQing and pitch adjusting. Nasty.

I remembered when one DJ plays, and the other DJ just changes needles, puts on a record, and keeps the music playing. Now I goto parties where the promoter plays out one track, then another from start to finish while setting up the next DJ’s equipment.

The only time and place I can see devices such as Serato being useful is when only one DJ plays for an entire night. But for parties with multiple DJs, it can get weird. Go to a rock show with multiple bands and you’ll see how disruptive it is when a new band has to setup the equipment on stage after the previous band breaks down.

But other than that, I wonder why DJs don’t carry vinyl anymore. No matter where they go, there will always be turntables and a mixer in the booth. Just go and start playing the music, no setting up required.

Q-Bert pranks a telemarketer

Funny video. It starts getting repetitive as Q-Bert starts using a conversational loop. But the ending is the best part. Keep in mind he’s in London at the time of this call.

But it’s cool, he can afford it. He got paid by Apple.

March declared FUCK THE RIAA month

Boycott the RIAA

Gizmodo’s Anti-RIAA Manifesto declares March “Boycott the RIAA month.” This means to teach these Granny suing assholes a lesson we won’t buy any music associated with them. These are the fucks who accidentally sue someone who legally purchases all their music and says “this is not over” instead of “we are proud of this customer for being ethical.” They are suing their customers, who does that?! They want to stop network neutrality, force DRM so we have trouble playing music we buy. Check the first link posted for the complete info, because it goes on and on.

So that is why we say, FUCK THE RIAA.

But don’t worry, there are many good ways to still support your favorite bands and musicians. You can buy their merchandise and go to their live shows. Hell, buy their merchandise at their shows. Spread the word when they’re coming to your town. Support the artists, not the RIAA.

To see which labels are under RIAA’s regime, you can check their list or use the RIAA Radar.

AGIproDJ.com closing its doors

AGI Pro DJ

Man am I shocked. AGIproDJ.com is closing its operation because the parent company, AGI, Inc. wants to focus on their main market, church audio and visual. So it wasn’t because their business was suffering. In fact, their sales have kept on rising. If you bought anything from them before you would know why. You usually have to call or contact a real person before making a purchase. It was like good customer support is required.

So now AGI, Inc. is shutting down an amazing company because they want to focus on something else, and not expand on something successful. Well, it’s their company. I wish Justin, Ty, and Dave the best of luck in their new positions in AGI, Inc.

Their excellent service and commitment for customer satisfaction in the church sector will only spawn a whole city of Jesus Camps. Have you seen the a/v rigs in those places?

Yeah it doesn’t look like they’re going to be broke anytime soon. By the way, that man is the one who condemned gay marriage and was caught having sex with another man.

With who?

MIKE JONES!

MIKE JONES!

With WHO?!

MIKE JONES!!!!

MIKE JONES!

WITH WHO!?!?

MIKE JONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MIKE JONES!

Crazy, I know. But don’t believe what I write. See for yourself:

See? All of this is true.

So with all that out of the way, thanks, AGI Pro DJ for all the great service you gave us all these years. For historical preservation, I placed the official letter from AGI, Inc. below.

To our DJ friends and family,

For the past five years we have worked hard to provide the DJ community with the best DJ products and service on the planet. It has always been our goal to serve you and not “sell” you. Your response to this servant attitude has propelled agiprodj.com to high levels of recognition. Our website continues to see growth with new visitors every day. Most of our referrals come from word of mouth and bulletin boards. Under Justin’s leadership we have seen double digit increases in sales year after year. The popularity of our product videos and vlogs is staggering. DJ equipment manufacturers have contacted us specifically to seek our advice about upcoming products and have asked us to feature their products in our videos. Justin and Ty have also been asked to beta-test hardware and software products before they go to market. We care and it shows.

agiprodj.com is a part of the larger company AGI, Inc. AGI, Inc. is a design, sales, and install (a/v products) company that primarily serves the church a/v community. The management at AGI, Inc. has recently decided to renew its original vision and focus all company resources into serving the church a/v market. This means the dissolution of agiprodj.com and other revenue streams. Justin, Ty and Dave have been asked to bring their talents and experience to the church a/v side and will join a team of people dedicated to serving the church a/v community. With this renewed focus and in obedience to our original purpose it is our hope that we can provide the same level of excellence in service to our house of worship customers as Justin and Ty were able to provide for the DJ community.

Today is bitter sweet for me. As the founder of agiprodj.com I am saddened that we will no longer be a resource to you, our friends and colleagues. I have enjoyed my interactions with many of our original, loyal customers. As a past club DJ and a mobile DJ myself there will always be a place in my heart for this community. Bringing on Justin and then Ty and seeing their passion for the industry and their desire to serve you has been inspirational. I am going to miss “DJ”.

I am excited however at the new focus our company has. I am excited to serve the church a/v community with a new zeal. I am anxious to help lead the way in this industry and make a meaningful difference in the church a/v community. There is nothing more rewarding to me than knowing I am helping people better understand the saving message of Jesus Christ.

To the manufacturers that believed in us from the beginning and helped us, thank you. Thank you especially to Silvio Zeppieri with Denon DJ. Your passion for making products that DJ’s want is amazing. Your willingness to communicate openly on the Internet with real DJ’s is unmatched. To Jon Cormican at Pioneer USA, thank you for supporting us from the very beginning. To Mike May and Debbie Cooksey at Rane, thanks for the exceptional customer service and encouragement to “add value” and “be different”.

The success of agiprodj.com could not be achieved without the help of you, our faithful customers. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for placing your trust in us. Thank you for your return business. Thank you for referring your friends and fellow DJ’s to us. We truly could not have achieved the level of success we have without you.

Best wishes,
Jason DeMoe

Understanding ravers

Yes I have made fun of ravers in the past with the track listing tutorial. But I have a confession.

I was a raver.

There, I said it. It’s out there. No turning back now. I went as far as the glowstrings, UFOs, the visor, and a few other things I rather not publicly mention. In fact I’m still down for a rave if it has some good Gabber or Drum and Bass lineup. Too bad the NY rave scene got a bit… eh…

But the reason why I’m saying all this is to share with you the hilarious Raver entry in Encyclopedia Dramatica without being called and outright raver hater, or the anti-PLUR. So enjoy. And remember…

PLUR!

PEACE, LOVE, UNITY, AND RESPECT, YOU FUCKS! <3
